In 2017, ZHL became a majority shareholder of CredSure Insurance Limited and in the process re-modeled CredSure Insurance Limited’s business thrust, transforming it into an Underwriting Management Agency (UMA). A UMA is a structure that allows an independently registered company to write insurance business on behalf of an insurer. The model seeks to provide clients with tailor-made insurance solutions while empowering entrepreneurship within the insurance and risk management space. A UMA performs binder functions and other services on behalf of an insurer as an expert in a particular type of insurance business. The functions are regulated by a written agreement between the UMA and Insurer. In some jurisdictions, the UMA needs to be licensed by the insurance regulator.
